Cregagh Estates Purple Star L.O.L. 892

The original warrant was issued to this lodge in Loragh, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, and is recorded as part of Enniskillen District No. 4 in 1829, a situation which the documentation tells us still applied in 1909. The first Master of this Lodge was Brother Thomas Sands. At what date the warrant lapsed is unknown, but it was again issued and the lodge reconstituted on 3 March, 1919 as part of No. 10 District with the title of Rosetta Temperance 892, the name of the Master being a Bro, Dixon. The lodge was very successful for a number of years, and was again a socially minded lodge which booked such venues for their social evenings as Anne's Tea Shoppe in Ann Street, The Bon Bouche Cafe, and the Merry Thought Cafe (location unknown). The lodge became dormant on 9 January 1942, but was again reconstituted under the same title and number in No. 10 District on 25 October 1949. On that occasion they certainly started off with a flourish with no fewer than 36 new members accepted into the lodge of the one evening, which must have been something of a record for a private lodge.

A change of title was first discussed in January 1950 and soon afterwards the present title was adopted.  The lodge travelled to Toronto in Canada in the 1960's when they took part in the Canadian Boyne Anniversary celebrations. The lodge for many years organised an annual service to St. Andrews Church Mount Merrion. Among itsmost prominent members were the tireless Bro. Dixon, W. Hro. John Bingham, Past Deputy District Master, Bros. William and Trevor Foster, ever willing to further the cause, and Bro. William Blair, our local Unionist councillor.
