(Lodge History Continued) NEWTON SAVILLE ORANGE HALL. The members of L.O.L.646 felt the time was now right to try and obtain their own Orange Hall , this would not only benefit the Lodge but also the local community, a plot of land was obtained on the Curr Road, Ballygawley, some 3 miles from Omagh Town, The Hall was built in 1930 under the leadership of the W.Master Bro J.Harrison and the members set about furnishing their newly built Orange Hall, Bro T. Anderson, a member of the Lodge kindly donated chairs and it was not until 1938 before any heating and lighting was installed, this consisted of calor gas. electricity was not installed until November 1959, The members built a wall around the Orange Hall with railings in January 1956, over the years the Orange Hall has been refurbished, with new lighting, a fitted kitchen and the Hall is maintained with the kind support and generosity of the members of the Lodge and is still situated at it's original location on the Curr Road in Ballygawley, County Tyrone. he members of L.O.L.646 are very proud of such a fine building , the Hall is not only used for Lodge meetings but also for church services and also serves the members of the local community. NEWTON SAVILLE ACCORDIAN BAND The members od L.O.L.646 are also very proud of their own Band, The Newton Saville Accordian Band, the membership of the Band is taken from within the Tyrone area and consists of both male and female members, the Band also has a large junior membership with both girls and boys. The Band over the years has grown in numbers and always have the pleasure of taking the Lodge members on parade, both to County demonstrations and also Church Parades. The Band members are responsible for all their own fundraising and monies raised helps towards buying new instraments. TODAYS MEMBERSHIP In 1798 when Newton Saville Loyal Orange Lodge was first formed the records of the Grand Lodge of Ireland showed the membership of the Lodge was taken from the Military, the membership of the Lodge today is taken largely from the Farming Community, many of the members are dairy and beef farmers,together with sheep and goats, however the Lodge also consists of members from other professions, The Lodge meets at Newton Saville Orange Hall, Curr Road, Ballygawley on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 8pm, The Lodge would be pleased to welcome any member of the Loyal Orange Institution and inparticular new members are most welcome. for further details and more information please email us .
