Luther L.O.L. 492

The name 'Luther' is taken from the name of the 'Great Reformer' Martin Luther and is probably the only lodge bearing his name.

The warrant was taken out in 1874 with the lodge later becoming a part of No. 3 District L.O.L. Unfortunately there are no records of minutes or correspondence existing for the early years of the lodge.

Senior past members who gave long and devoted service to Luther L.O.L. 492 were the late Brother Herbert McConkey PM, Brother J. M. Boyd PM and Brother Samuel McClenaghan PM PDM DGMI. Brother William Crothers PM and Brother Harry Crothers PM are our present senior members with over 115 years service between them. Our current secretary Brother Eric Brewster is also District Lecturer of No. 3 District L.O.L.

Eglinton L.O.L. 269 from Canada, who will be on parade with us this year, have the distinction of having as their Worshipful Master, Brother John B. Speers, who as well as being a Past Master of Luther L.O.L. 492 is also the son of our present treasurer Brother Hiram Speers PM and grandson of the late Brother J.M. Boyd PM. So not only can Luther L.O.L. 492 claim to span the centuries, it can also claim to span the Atlantic.
