Duke of Sohomberg L.O.L. 486

This is another long established lodge that will not only be celebrating its 200th birthday but will also be flying a new banner.

Most of the early members of the lodge would have been linen workers coming into Belfast from the country for work in the great linen mills. However this changed following the second world war, after which most members were shipyard workers.

Again another lodge with strong family ties. The Deputy District Master Jack Coulter and his three sons are all Past Masters and still very active in the life of the lodge. The Treasurer, Fraser Agnew, a former Mayor of Newtownabbey, in his 35th year in that particular office, is joined by his brother Geoffrey and hopefully, some day, by his son Philip who is a member of the Junior Lodge and has also led No. 3 District, carrying the District Bannerette for a number of years.
