Cloverhill Temperance L.O.L. 455

The original warrant was issued on 29th November 1909 and the Lodge was known as the Enniskillen Total Abstinence. The warrant had been dormant for a number of years before it was granted to Bro. John Joseph Baird, the first Worshipful Master of

Cloverhill. The title 'Cloverhill' was taken from the name of the residence of Bro. William Boggs, 'Cloverhill House', which is situated on the Rathfriland side of Loughbrickland, Co. Down. It was from this neighbourhood that brothers Joe, Sam, and Sandy Daird hailed. These brethren together with a number of others, most of whom worked plots in the Cliftondene area of Belfast, decided one summer evening in 1944 to 'sew the seed' of a new Orange Lodge. Hence Cloverhill Temperance was instituted and dedicated by the late W. Bro. Richard Sweeney, District Master No. 2, on the 9th November 1944 in Belfast Orange Hall, Clifton Street.

Over the years the Lodge has been served by many faithful brethren, none more so than W Bro. Alexander F. Baird (Sandy), a foundation member and WM in 1949, who is ever-present at Lodge meetings and tends to the Lodge banner. The Baird connection is maintained by Bro. Robert Baird, son of the foundation Master and W. Bro. Alexander E Baird (Junior).
