City Of Chester

Loyal Orange Lodge 375

St Georges Standard  City Of Chester  Union Jack

The warrant for L.O.L 375, "City of Chester" was issued on the 19th November 1971. The original name was "Ellesmere Port Loyalist" as this is the town that the lodge was meeting in at that time. The sister lodge L.L.O.L 376 also received their warrant at the same time.

The original lodge met around the Ellesmere port area until it purchased a property in the town center at Station Road, which was aptly named "The Loyalist Club". A junior lodge (J.L.O.L. 377 "Ellesmere Port Loyalist") was also opened and all three Lodges formed an accordion band "Pride of the Port".

On the 12th May 1987 L.O.L 375 moved to the Zion Tabernacle, Chester where it still meets today and re-named itself "City Of Chester" to refelect the move. This carried on a long tradition of Orangeisim in the city, although the original warrant for L.O.L 375 came from Plymouth about 1890. The first recorded lodge in Chester being L.O.L 27 who met in the city as long ago as 1811. In 1830 L.O.L 177 sat at the Pointer Dog in Watergate Row, and later on in the 1850's Chester had enough lodges sitting within the City to form its own District.

The Grand Lodge Of England has meet twice in Chester since the amalgamation in 1876. The first time was in 1949 when it met at the Central Hall, City Road, just a short distance from where L.O.L 375 meet today. The second time was in 1996, when "City Of Chester" hosted the Grand Lodge meeting, this coincided with the Silver Jubliee Anniversary of their warrant being issued making it a memorable milestone.
