Prince of Orange Temperance L.O.L. 1922 We understand the original warrant was taken out in 1886, however, according to our more senior brethren the first known record of the lodge was in 1904. Whilst "The Prince" as the lodge is affectionately known comprises of members originally from the Donegall Road, Sandy Row and Grosvenor Road area, this lodge opted for Belfast Orange Hall in Clifton Street and Belfast No.3 District as our meeting place. Our Lodge Banner depicts William crossing the Boyne and on the reverse the Rev Kane. 1922 has a very active membership of 35, the oldest being Bro. Ben Fox who at the age of a sprightly age of 80 rarely misses a meeting promoting the family spirit that prevails in the lodge. The present WM, is Bro. Samuel Murdoch, who will lead the lodge as an Orangeman this twelfth but from the ranks of the band, as he is also a member of Prince of Orange L.O.L. 1922 Flute Band. This year, 1998, marks the fiftieth anniversary of the band. Throughout the years the band has served the lodge and also our sister organisation Grosvenor Temp. R.B.P 855 faithfully on many parades and have also supported many other District Lodges and church organisations at annual events. As you would expect the senior members of the band are very active lodge members. Band Chairman is the WM., Bro. Samuel Murdoch, Band Treasurer is the lodge secretary Bro. William McLaughlin and one of the founder band members Bro. Jim Gallagher PM will be with us today. "Big Jimmy" is also the band's vicepresident. As you would imagine we, the lodge members are very proud of the band which we believe is the only remaining lodge band in the Belfast County. We congratulate them on reaching the half century and hope they will be around for many years to come. Yes we are a very happy lodge and band and we all look forward to the 13th of July when "The Prince" will once again be on the road to Edenderry. |
