Ulster Volunteers L.O.L. 1216

The aforementioned Lodge was founded during 1969 / 70 by Brother David Semple PM who served as Worshipful Master during its first 3 years of existence. This period saw LOL 1216 become one of the fastest growing Lodges in Belfast. With a leaning towards Free Presbyterianism, it is understandable that several minister of that church were members of the Lodge, notably the Rev. Brother William McCrea, former MP and also the Rev. Brother Fred Greenfield.

The banner has the Martyrs Memorial church depicted on the front and on the reverse side, the famed ship of the 1920s gunrunning, the SS Clyde Valley.LOL 1216 plays a prominent part in No. 2 District's monthly meetings, being well represented by Brother Brian Miskimmon PM, a prominent member of Clifton Street Credit Union and the Ulster Land and Property Fund.

During the past 5 years, the Lodge has highlighted many significant features of Orangeism. A float carrying a replica of the boom breaker 'Mountjoy' and one carrying a replica of Dan Winter's Cottage at the Diamond Crossroads have featured at Twelfth Demonstrations to Edenderry in the past High profile members of the Lodge at present are Alderman and Assembly Member Brother Nigel Dodds OBE and Rev. Brother Ronnie Johnston who will be taking part in the platform proceedings in the field this year.

The Lodge has had an influx of young members in the past 2 years and is in a very sound state.
