Comber Ulster Defenders LOL 100

The formation of this lodge is recorded from the minute book of Goldsprings of Comber LOL 1037 on Thursday 11 September 1924.  Wor Bro Joe Brown proposed that an application for a Warrant with a view to institute an ex-servicemen's lodge, and to be submitted for ratification at the next meeting of Comber District.

The Warrant Comber Ulster Defenders LOL 100* was finally granted at a special meeting in the Andrews Memorial Hall on 15th January 1925.  Special guests at the meeting were Rt Hon Edward Archdale, Grand Master and Wor Bro J M Andrews.  The new Warrant was presented to Captain Harry McCormack, the first Worshipful Master.  The first meeting was held in Comber Orange Hall on 4th February 1925, and the first banner unfurled 1st July 1925.

* The number is relatively low compared to other lodges in Comber District.  The origins of LOL 100 are obscure.  Archive material confirms that it was first issued in 1823 to a Mr John Chambers from Co Clare, and renewed in 1875 to a Mr Henry Livingstone from the Lower Iveagh area, (Dromore).  The Warrant became dormant in the 1900s.   However, from historical records, it is known that Dan Winter received number LOL 118 within days of the battle of the Diamond, so it must be assumed that LOL 100 was originally instituted at Sloan's House in Loughgall and probably hand written.
