LOL 1057

Ballyknockan Purple Heroes

This lodge has its own Orange Hall in the townland of Ballyknockan, near the village of Ballygowan. The Warrant originates from Co. Londonderry and was first issued in 1829 to Dr. Samuel Logue. An interesting fact arising from the archives is that the Warrant was issued to a Mr. Alexander Bell in 1875 at the same time as LOL 1037, presumably to the same person. Both Warrants were re-issued on the same date, 13th November 1893, LOL 1057 to Mr. Sam McKee and LOL 1037 to Mr. Andrew Dickson.

In very recent years, LOL 1057 has experienced an influx of very good young men and the lodge can only prosper from these, the buds of future growth.

The banner depicts the two Bishops, Ridley and Latimer who were burned at the stake for being `heretics` for professing their belief in the Protestant Reformed Faith.

Above their heads is wriitten :-

"They suffered death rather than submit to Popery"
